AMouseWithAHouse Toy Store is pleased to introduce our latest European toy brand collection that we've added to our Australian toy store - Grapat Wooden Toys is a Spanish toy brand - 'Joguines Grapat' a small, family run toy workshop that manufacture's open-ended wooden toys. Casiana and Jordi, the founders of Grapat Wooden Toys are from a small town in the Pyrenean mountains of Catalunya, Spain, who were inspired by how their daughter played when given the freedom to play with her natural every day surroundings.

Casiana and Jordi believe that when the toy is somewhat seemingly simplistic and given without any specific instructions nor direction, it encourages children to develop a more adventurous and complex activity with the said toy as open-ended favours free and autonomous play.

Grapat Wooden Toys are handmade wooden toys developed with love from almost all locally sourced sustainable timbers, from sustainable forests, including beech and birch wood and subject to nature making every piece unique. Wood is the source that inspires the Grapat team daily. It is robust, soft and hard, it is warm, it sounds good and it smells good.

These unique wooden toys are finished with safe natural waxes and oils of vegetable origin. Enjoy the smell! The dyes are based on water and non-toxic that comply with the European safety regulations of the Toy EN / 71-3: 2014 + A1: 2014 / 2013. Every part of each toy has been considered from the dimensions of the toy, to the shape or form, the thickness of the wood and the colour. All Grapat toys are certified to toy safety standards. Grapat makes toys that are not just fun, but safe and responsible.

Grapat wooden toys are made following traditional Spanish toy manufacturing processes, in the old way, with thick soft raw materials, natural dyes which let the wood veins be seen and vibrant coloured waxes and oils that slightly shine producing rainbow-colored toys in wood to fascinate children of all ages. The products are painted by hand, homemade, surrounded by land, fire, rivers and many children nearby, who inspire us daily.

The creative and popular Grapat wood toys when combined with other elements, can be part of your child's learning and educational development via mathematical, language and sensorial games, among other learning styles. Moreover, the Grapat wood toys are designed not to be specifically structured, which allows for it to be used in so many broad and creative ways. Their gorgeously simple hand-made wooden toys don’t have eyes, or a gender, in this way, it is actually the children who can develop their own stories and decide which character they are going to play with and how.

So the Grapat philosophy is to let children play, slowly, without time limits. They suggest parents provide the opportunity and material that encourages, invites and stimulates the creation of several fantastic, realistic and invented little worlds.

Casiana and Jordi Grapat love the open-ended nature of all the toys, a guiding principle for the Grapat family: "It inspires us to see our children and other children playing, the game has something sacred, like a parallel world-like meditation that is governed by its own rules, times. The game is the moment of the YES, where EVERYTHING IS OK, except the rules that are established and that normally have to do with not hurting oneself, others, the environment, the material and the creations of others... And When these moments of true play occur we take care of it, we protect it as if it were a sacred moment. We do not interrupt, we take care of space, we keep silent..."

For the ongoing toy maintenance, care or cleaning of the parts, they should be stored in a dry place, they can be wiped with a damp cloth and dried immediately. The pieces should not be submerged in water nor should disinfectant be used.

From 2019 Grapat has eliminated 100% use of plastic from our packaging. So we can contribute to the reduction of waste on the planet. The cloth bags that are included in some of the products come from big companies that discard material when they find a small defect. As Grapat produce the bags by hand we can take advantage of them by removing those defects and giving them a second life. The fabrics vary and can not match with the photos of the products.
